Getting traffic to your website is only half the job. If visitors are landing on your site and leaving without making contact, the problem isn't your marketing, it's your website.
The most common reasons visitors don't convert
No clear call to action. If a visitor lands on your site and isn't immediately sure what to do next, they leave. Every page should have one clear next step, call us, email us, fill in this form.
Contact information is buried. Your phone number should be visible without scrolling on every page. If someone has to hunt for a way to contact you, most won't bother.
The site doesn't build trust. South African consumers are cautious online. If your site looks outdated, has no testimonials, and gives no indication of who's behind it, visitors won't make contact.
The site is too slow on mobile. Most South African internet users browse on mobile. If your site takes more than 3 seconds to load on a phone, the majority of visitors will leave before seeing your content.
Your messaging is unclear. "Welcome to our website" is not a headline. Your homepage should immediately answer: what do you do, who do you do it for, and why should someone choose you.
How to fix it
Start with the basics before anything else. Add your phone number to the top of every page. Write a clear headline that explains your service in one sentence. Add a simple contact form that takes less than a minute to fill in.
Then address trust. Add one or two genuine client testimonials. Include a photo of yourself or your team. Show real examples of your work.
Finally, check your site on a mobile phone with a slow connection. If it's frustrating to use, fix the speed issues, compress your images, reduce unnecessary plugins, and test again.
The simplest test
Ask someone who doesn't know your business to visit your website for 30 seconds, then close it. Ask them: what does this business do, and how would you contact them? If they can't answer both questions immediately, you have a conversion problem worth fixing.
